Any member of the clade Telluraves but not Coraciimorphae or Psittacopasserae (parrots and passerines). Most species are predators that primarily feed on vertebrates. They are also known as raptors and have hooked beaks and sharp talons.

Vultures, despite being raptors, are actually mainly scavengers. And some raptors are insectivorous, such as honey buzzards. Also, most predatory birds, such as passerines are not raptors.
