Eugenes is usually considered a monotypic genus with its sole member the magnificent hummingbird (E. fulgens). Some taxonomic authorities split the species into two:
- Magnificent Hummingbird / Rivoli's Hummingbird (Eugenes fulgens)
- Admirable Hummingbird (Eugenes spectabilis)
