Sudan Golden Sparrows are sexually dimorphic. The males are a very bright yellow (their latin species name, luteus, means saffron yellow) on their head and front of their body. Their backs are a warm brown color, and their wings are a mix of browns with white tips on their greater coverts. The females are a much more muted yellow-brown color.[citation needed]
