Two "circles" on Earth, at approx. 23.5 degrees north and south respectively. The northern Tropic is the Tropic of Cancer, the southern is the Tropic of Capricorn. The denote the latitudes furthest away from the Equator where the Sun is still right overhead at some stage of the year.
This term can also be used to refer to the region between them - see Tropical.
