The common toad, Bufo bufo described by Linnaeus, is the type species for the genus Bufo
Term for the species selected which represents the genus of a bird species. The type species of a genus is known as the type genus. Theoretically it is that species of a genus defining the character of that genus. If that genus contained only one species when proposed, it is the type species[1] .
