Automolus is a genus of bird in the Furnariidae family.

The Tepui Foliage-gleaner has been placed in this genus, but behavior, voice, and morphology all point to it belonging in Syndactyla,[1] and molecular data confirmed this hypothesis.[2]

The Striped Woodhaunter was formerly placed in its own genus Hyloctistes but molecular evidence proved that it belongs into Automolus [3] Meanwhile, the Ruddy Foliage-gleaner and the Santa Marta Foliage-gleaner, formerly placed in Automolus, are actually more closelly related to Clibanornis foliage-gleaners.[3]

Another IOC/Ridgely-Tudor (2009) change is to split Striped Woodhaunter, Automolus subulatus, into Western Woodhaunter, Automolus virgatus and Eastern Woodhaunter, Automolus subulatus.[4]

Now in Clibanornis:
